Christmas Message

Lancashire Police Federation would like to wish all of our members and their families a very happy Christmas. Whilst most are able to spend time with their families over the Christmas period, many of our members will be working long hours during the busiest time of the year, often in the most difficult of circumstances.

As many of us look forward to Christmas and spending time with friends and family it is also a time to reflect over the previous 12 months. It's fair to say it has been another challenging year for policing generally and Lancashire has not been an exception. Call volumes and workloads have risen and the challenges of policing continue to broaden and yet these fall on a smaller number of officers and staff. But, as usual and despite the challenges, there has been some fantastic policing over the last 12 months, with many Lancashire officers being recognised for their work, both locally and nationally. We have visited all response teams over the last year and delivered an input on post incident procedures and misconduct matters and how the Federation can support you.

Looking forward to 2020, we have new challenges, but they are good challenges to have, an uplift in Taser trained officers and an uplift in officer numbers to name a couple. The Constabulary have plans in place to make this happen and we are involved in the process. The Home Affairs select committee is to examine the role and remit of the IOPC, this is long overdue, police officers are often under investigation for months and sometimes years, investigations lack focus and there are unnecessary delays, this cannot be right. There is also the consultation on assaults on emergency workers which has been announced by the new government, which could double the current maximum sentence of 12 months. These announcements are no doubt welcomed by all, we have had some horrific attacks on our colleagues and sentencing needs to reflect the dangers you face.

We hope you keep safe during the period. However if there are any incidents which require the assistance of the Police Federation over the festive season, please contact us. We have representatives available and on call over the period.

Have a safe and Happy Christmas from all at Lancashire police Federation.
